Because of the agreement between Brunei and EU, all the citizens from Brunei are allowed to enter any of the states in the region without the need for any travel authorization or via. They just need their valid passport and can enter any of the states of their choice to stay for the short term there.

But due to the policy change in 2016, there will be a new system in the last quarter of 2022. This new system is an electronic-based visa authorization that will allow the access to all the nationals from the list of 60 eligible countries to apply online and get the visa authorization to enter the country of their choice in the Schengen zone.

The Bruneian citizens will have to apply for and obtain the visa waiver authorization from the electronic system called ETIAS. This system will require the online application from the Bruneian citizen to apply and provide the retried information. The system is created to ensure citizens' safety in all EU states from the threats and terrorist activities.

The system will screen the information from the national and international databases, and the visa waiver will be electronically linked to the passport provided at the time of online application. The holder will have to provide the ETIAS authorized passport at the time of boarding the place or vehicle for entering the Schengen state of their choice.

The Bruneian citizens who would like to obtain the ETIAS visa authorization will fill an online application form. Brunei's nationals can open the online application form on the portal by using any of the devices with the internet connection. The whole process will take only 10 to 15 minutes. The process of obtaining authorization from your own country is simple and easy. All you need is to provide the required information and pay the fee for the processing. Once the application is completed within minutes, you will receive the authorization in most of the cases.

Brunei citizens who want to travel to Europe will require the following.

  • Valid passport
  • Three months of validity from the intended travel date
  • Current email address
  • Debit or credit card
  • Sufficient funds to pay the processing fee

This is the requirement for the first step of the online ETIAS application portal. Without the instruments mentioned above and resources, the applicant will not take the online application into the next phase. If any of these things is missing your application will not be accepted, and you will get a denial at once.

The online process will be available for the citizens of Brunei in the last quarter of 2022. After implementing this new system called ETIAS, all the nationals from the eligible countries will be required to fill the application form and get the visa waiver authorization.

The authorization will be necessary for all the citizens from Brunei who wish to enter the Schengen states after implementing ETIAS. The travellers must obtain the visa waiver authorization from the internet before leaving their country to enter the Schengen states. The authorization will be easy, and the citizens will be able to open the online portal from their home or office.

Brunei nationals can use any of the devices with a secure internet connection to open the online portal. The portal will require them to fill the application form by providing complete details of the visit and the first Schengen country they want to enter. All the travelling details, passport number and health-related information, will be asked from the applicant.

The next phase will consist of the security-related questions. The applicant will have to answer the security-related questions, previous criminal record if any, and all the visits to the restricted countries.

The citizens of Brunei must apply with accurate information on the portal. Because any mistake in the spelling or discrepancy in the information will lead to the refusal of the application and the request will be denied.

If everything goes well, the applicant will receive the authorization after 15 to 20 minutes of paying the processing fee. The debit or credit card is enough to pay the fee, and the authorities will screen all the information provided by the applicant. National and international databases will be used for automatic screening. After the successful screening, the authorization will be sent to the email address provided at the time of the application. The authorization will be valid for three years, and all the citizens will be allowed to enter the Schengen state of their choice.

The traveller must apply for the authorization three days before the intended date. Because in some cases if there is an issue in the information the process will be converted manual and it will take 2 to three days to check for the information and discrepancies and send the authorization to the email address.

The online application process will complete in 10 to 20 minutes. Once the authorization is sent to the mail address, it will also be electronically linked to the passport presented at the time of the application.

Brunei citizens who have more than one passport must apply with the passport that has more than three months of the expiry date left from the time of intended travel. The one important thing which all Brunei nationals must remember is that they cannot transfer the ETIAS authorization from one passport to another, even on their own passport. The authorization will be valid for a period of three years.

If in the three year time the passport expires the authorization will also be considered null and void at the expiry of the passport. The Brunei national will have to go at one to their native country and get a new passport. The next thing for visa waiver authorization is to apply again for the ETIAS and get it linked to the new passport to enter the Schengen state of their choice.

The authorization awards the stay of not more than 90 days in every visit. All the nationals of Brunei are legally bound to stay not more than 90 days in the consecutive time of 180 days. The Brunei citizens who wish to enter the Schengen states must look for the country in the European region, whether it is the member of the Schengen states or not. There are 26 European countries for which the Brunei citizens will require the ETIAS authorization, and the other countries in the European region will not require the ETIAS authorization. It is imperative to have research on their country of visit for the visa and visa waiver requirements.

Currently, the Bruneian citizens are allowed to enter the European and Schengen states by showing their passport at the time of arrival and provide the information about their visit. They are allowed it to stay for a short period of time, not more than 90 days. After the implementation of this new system called ETIAS, all the Bruneian citizens will have to apply for the authorization before reaching the border of the Schengen states. Once the applicant gets the authorization, it will remain valid for three years, and the traveller will be allowed multiple trips and short term stay. The maximum number of stay, in any case, cannot exceed 90 days in 180 days period. If the traveller stays more than 90 days in 6 months time, it will lead to fines, deportation and other serious consequences.

The authorization will only take 10 to 20 minutes, and on the same working day, the applicant will get the authorization to travel to the Schengen state. But it is imperative that the person must apply for the authorization minimum of three days before. The students who wish to attend the seminar or want to visit any country to know about the university or the admission must apply for the ETIAS that will grant them access to all of the Schengen states and they can stay in any of the desired countries but not more than 90 days. The ETIAS authorization doesn't provide access to the students to enrol in the university and take admission in any course. The students from Brunei must apply for the study visa that will allow them access to a single country and the university. The Bruneian students must apply for the study visa from their native country in the embassy and consulate and get a full-time visa to stay and study in the country of their choice. This study visa will not get them access to all the other states in the Schengen area, but it will allow them to stay for two years or for the time being their course requires them to stay. The Bruneian citizens who wish to enrol in any of the university in Schengen country must apply and get the student visa from the embassy or consulate of that state in their country.
