Taiwanese citizens do not require any visa to enter the Schengen states this is because of the agreement between the Schengen zone and Taiwan. There are a total number of 62 countries whose citizens are welcome to enter the Schengen zone any time they want. With the help of a valid passport, they can reach the border of the Schengen zone from where the immigration officer will provide them the access to any or all the Schengen states and they can stay there for 90 days in the 6 months.

In 2016 the European authorities decided to implement a system that will keep a check on all the travelers entering the Schengen zone. And their data will be screened from the databases of the law enforcement agencies. They decide to improve the safety and security conditions in the Schengen zone that’s why they decided to create and implement a system that will screen eh individuals and stop them from entering the Schengen zone before they could reach the border.

Schengen zone consists of 22 European and 4 no-European states. All of these states want to improve the safety of the citizens in their country and for this purpose, they have been fabricating and applying new strategies and policies. All of these policies have the sole purpose of increasing the security conditions in the Schengen zone and enhance the safety of their citizens.

From the last quarter of 2022, the new system named ETIAS will be in effect. All the third-country nationals and people from the visa waiver countries will have to apply for the visa waiver authorization to get access to the country of their choice. The system is under process from 2016 and till the last quarter of 2022 all the national and international databases will be combined and provide a nexus of the information to the immigration authorities. The system will provide the online portal to the applicants and they will have to provide the necessary information to complete the application form.

Before starting to fill the online application form, the applicant must have a valid passport, a current email address, and a valid credit or debit card. The application process will not start if the applicant doesn't provide these four basic necessities the application process will not start.

When the applicants have filled the application form and all the columns are completed the online portal will require a processing fee from the applicant. The transaction methods will be through debit or credit card and the fee will be nominal in terms of the visa. The one thing which must be kept in mind is that the applicant must apply from the passport which has the validity of more than 3 months as after completing the process the visa waiver will be linked to the passport. Once the passport expires the visa waiver will be revoked at once and the Taiwanese citizen will have to leave the Schengen state at once and form the home country to apply for the new passport. After getting the passport the application process will be the first thing that traveler must do to once again obtain the visa waiver from the ETIAS.

After completing the screening process the authorities will send the visa waiver to the email address provided at the beginning of the application. The passport will be electronically linked to the ETIAS authorization that will allow the holder with the access to come and go out of any of the Schengen states. The visa waiver allows the citizens to enter as many times as they want in any of the Schengen states. The multiple entry visa allows the stay of 90 days in the 6 months.

The visa waiver is valid for three years or until the passport of the Taiwanese citizens expires. The visa waiver authorization allows the total number of 90 days stay in the Schengen zone in 6 months. It doesn't matter whether the traveler spends random 90 days in the entire 6 months or consecutive stay makes the total count of 90 the traveler must stay out of the Schengen zone for the next 90 days to be able to get the entry to any or all of the Schengen states.

After the implementation of the ETIAS Taiwanese citizens must apply online to obtain the authorization from the system to get the visa waiver. Before getting the visa waiver no one will be able to enter the Schengen states. Taiwanese citizens must provide the following details for ETIAS:

  • Basic personal information
  • Name
  • Surname
  • Date of birth
  • Place of birth
  • Passport details
  • Passport number
  • Expiration date
  • Country of issue

There are various purposes for the implication of the ETIAS. This visa waiver system will increase the security and safety conditions all around the Schengen zone. The applicant must apply online to get the visa waiver before leaving their country and boarding the vehicle bound to the Schengen border. This visa waiver system will require personal information and the applicant must provide the answer to the security and health-related questions. The applicant will proved the information regarding their visits to the conflicted zones. Their ties with any obnoxious organization or their health condition along with some serious contagious diseases and their vaccinations.

If any applicant dares hide the true answers to the questions the nexus of all the databases which will be in control of the ETIAS system will provide all the information saved on various national and international databases. The person who was hiding such information will be denied the visa waiver right away. It is imperative to provide the real information without any false details. False information will shift the automatic process to the manual and immigration authorities will check whether the person is a potential threat to the citizens of the EU or not. If they deem the person not fit to enter the denial will be sent to the email address along with the reasons.

The next important purpose of the ETIAS system is to lessen the burden from the immigration authorities if things change and the immigration authorities have to do all these steps by themselves. The ETIAS system will be in effect to relieve the immigration authorizes from this burden and the automatic online application process will check the data of the application from the databases and will prove the results within minutes. If everything is good and the applicant has got the green signal the visa waiver authorization will be sent to the email address and the authorities will be free from the burden of checking every single application manually.

But in case of some discrepancy the application will shift their status from automatic to manual this will not be the case for all of the applications and only a minor part of the application will be sent to the authorities to check for the status and take the decision. This process will free the immigration authorities from the burden of checking the thousands of passports daily and prevent the false decision.

eu-LISA is responsible for creating the nexus of information and databases to provide the hub for the authorities to confirm the information they have provided in the application form and its correctness with the database. eu-LISA was established back in 2011 and it has the main task of managing all the IT systems and integrating them into a single platform.

The basic purposes of this system at the time of conception were:

  • Maintain internal security
  • Enable and exchange visa data
  • Determine the status for the country to examine asylum applications

Currently, all the Schengen states share the information of the travelers and they are collaborating to make things better and improve the security conditions for their citizens. The ETIAS is the solid step towards this collective goal. This system will incorporate various databases from the law enforcement agencies. eu-LISA will make sure that all the databases are linked together and not a single person could hide any sensitive information and damage the safety and security of the Schengen states. Following is the list of the most valuable and significant database that will be the part of the nexus which ETIAS will utilize to scan and screen the individuals:

  • Visa Information System (VIS)
  • Interpol
  • SIS
  • Schengen Information System (SIS II)

Third-country national status holders Taiwanese travelers are not required to apply for the visa or obtain any authorization to enter the Schengen state. But after the implementation of the ETIA visa waiver system, the Taiwanese citizens must obtain the visa waiver to enter the Schengen zone.

Though the ETIAS online application process is simple and easy and it will take only 10 to 20 minutes to complete the process and get the visa waiver. But in case of a mistake or some issue, the application could take three to 4 working days that’s why it is divisible to apply 4 days before your intended date of travel.

Taiwanese citizens with the ETIAS visa waiver get innumerable entry trips and visit during the period of three years.
